Wouter Nuijten is a PhD student in the SPS group at Eindhoven University of Technology’s Electrical Engineering department. His research frames active inference as standard variational inference, emphasizing the Free Energy Principle as minimizing free energy while explaining goal-directed and information-seeking behavior within a single objective. He develops scalable message‑passing approaches for planning under uncertainty and contributes to practical probabilistic inference tooling, including as a core contributor to RxInfer.jl.
